I thought my life was sorted. I was in a career I loved and could never in a million years did I think I would have to give it up. I can remember watching James Herriot on television when I was about five years old and since then I had wanted to be a vet. I eventually landed a trainee job when I was 18 and loved it. Four years later I was qualified and working in referrals. I worked my way up to Head of theatre and with the increasing work load and responsibility came the stress.
During this time I got pregnant with my daughter. It wasn't the easiest of pregnancies, but I managed to work until my blood pressure became high at 8 months. After being off for a year on maternity leave I struggled. People changed, ways of working changed and I was still under the spell of postnatal depression. My workload was now being squeezed in to part time hours and something had to give, which was finally me.
I now coach professionals in highly stressful careers, who are struggling with new roles in management or with their current job roles, to find fulfilment in their careers again and to enjoy going to work.
